In The Bins.jpg

Dwntwn has become a go to location for vinyl enthusiast, with record bins in all 3 of our retail locations. Our selection of vinyl has a wide range of genres that vary from Funk to Soul with a bit of Reggae along side of those Golden Era Hip Hop gems. We had our very own Eddy Xpress dig in and find some of his favorite cuts to share with you before they're gone. Come in today to pick up some of these

A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
CAN I KICK IT? -Single
Jive Records
"Possibly one of the most popular Hip Hop records of all time, Can I kick it by ATCQ is a personal favorite record of mine to play at any Hip Hop gig. It always gets the heads bobbin, good vibes flowing, & the answer is always YES YOU CAN!"

PHARCYDE
OTHA FISH -Single
Delicious Vinyl Records
"Diggin deep in the bins and this gem pops up. A classic banger from The Pharcyde that makes a great addition to any hip hop heads record collection."

SNOOP DOGGY DOGG
GIN N JUICE -Single
Death Row Records
"WEST COAST!!! You know your in California when you hear this on the radio or at a party. Big Snoop Doggs 2nd single off his debut album Doggystyle was a favorite of mine growing up in Long Beach. Still dropping this single at my gigs and it always gets a great reaction."

LOOTPACK
LOOPDIGGA - 12" Single
Stones Throw Records
"What do you do when you see a record where Madchild, Wildchild & Dj Romes come together? You instantly cop it. Loopdigga is a great record to add to any record collection."

There is nothing like that feeling of digging through the record bins getting your fingers dusty and coming across that record that you had forgot all about that takes you back to a certain memory. In a time where everything is so digital and so fast paced it is great to see such interest in analog and the history of our music. The hunt to find those classic cuts are just half the fun. Visit any 3 of our locations and check out what else is in the bins.

Make sure to keep up with Eddy Xpress on Instagram and say whats up at any of his DJ residencies or holding it down at Dwntwn Santa Ana. You can find him spinning at Revolucion in Fullerton, Moonshiners in Long Beach, and DB Lounge in Downey.

No Sleep Till Warped

DWNTWN

Before the Vans Warped Tour kicks off DWNTWN and No Sleep Records put together an exclusive in-store performance from Koji, Allison Weiss, and Grey Gordon for a more up close and personal experience for all of their fans. Not only that, but this event was also the West Coast Release party for Koji's latest EP entitled "Fury" that just came out. We also had No Sleep Records there to hand out their brand new "Summer Of The Reaper" sampler with songs from their solid roster of bands. This sampler is a great way to get a taste for everything No Sleep has to offer and also find a few new artists to blast in your car when you head out on a few summer adventures. Grey Gordon started out the day playing a few new songs and his open letter to Morrissey (and himself) about keeping some perspective when you're world view is getting a bit bleak. Allison Weiss took the stage next and sang some stripped down versions of her latest songs which now feature a backing band. Allison has great vocal control throughout her songs and a unique perspective told through her lyrics. Koji was the final performer and his passionate set kept everyone right where they were. Not only does Koji play some great music, but he engages the crowd in conversation about some broader philosophical thinking. After playing a few songs Koji sat on the edge of the stage and had the entire crowd singing along with him making the final moments of No Sleep Till Warped something to remember. Its these sort of unique and personal moments that make us proud to be as involved as we can be across multiples scenes of music. Each one offers its own sense of community, and we are happy to help add to that. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Dwntwn Breakdown

DWNTWN

There was a great turnout at the Dwntwn Breakdown. Exactly what we wanted and expected! We had eight special invites and opened the doors for eight more competitors to join the battle! More than forty competitors showed up for the event so we gave everyone a chance to display their skills one by one to determine the top eight to battle against the invited Bboys! There was some amazing talent from all over the world at the Breakdown. Bboys from as far as Korea and Japan were at the event ready to bring their own unique style! However, even with all this talent and diversity, at the end of the day only one Bboy or Bgirl can win. Congratulations to Muneki, aka Bboy Wild Cat, from Concrete All Stars of Los Angeles.

Releasing the BBOY 4 LIFE Dwntwn x JSLV collaboration tee for Lil Rock was a great way to give back to all the Bboys and BGirls to show them how much we appreciate the support and love for the dance!

Dwntwn will be hosting more of these events real soon so keep an eye out for all the details coming your way.

Rastaclat Takeover

DWNTWN

As the doors DWNTWN Cerritos opened on Saturday April 25th, the Rastaclat crew was there to welcome customers and friends to our the very first Rastaclat Takeover. Rastaclat hand-makes all their bracelets, shoe laces, and accessories while staying dedicated to the spirit of spreading positive vibrations. The day consisted of an autograph signing with pro skaters Boo Johnson and Manny Santiago, a DJ spinning all day, live art getting made on the floor, and most importantly a free Rastaclat bracelet with every purchase. We had the signing go down at 2pm and as the day continued to build so did the hype and energy in the store. When pro skateboarders Boo Johnson from DGK Skateboards and Manny Santiago from AMMO Skateboards walked through the doors, both customers and staff were eager to get the signing started! Rastaclat was also generous enough to bring out a ton of promo gear for the fans to get signed like hats, phone cases, and stickers. The lined quickly filed out with people who brought pro model decks, tees, hats, and anything cool to get autographed by Boo and Manny. Our live Dj, Selecta Kram, and our live artist Kate Pendergrass also brought their talents into the store helping make an entire day filled with everything DWNTWN finds inspiration from in the streetwear community. Everyone at DWNTWN and the entire Rastaclat crew were hyped to bring such a cool event to our Cerritos location.  Everyone who made a purchase that day was also stoked on their free black leather Rastaclat bracelet they received! For all the latest updates on events and product in DWNTWN be sure to find us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter or sign up for our mailing list to get all the important updates sent straight to your inbox.

Dwntwn Sessions with DrewID

DWNTWN

DrewID of Speach Impediments performs "Hip Hop Heaven" at Dwntwn La Mirada in the first installment of Dwntwn Sessions.

Behind the turntables

Dwntwn Sessions will be a brand new facet where we take artists we have developed a relationship with and present a close up, one-on-one video of their work. We want to showcase the talent we surround ourselves with at Dwntwn and what better way than by showing you all through video. Dwntwn Sessions will continue to grow and expand across all avenues of art we involve ourselves and give you a unique take on an artists perspective.

DrewID of Speach Impediments is our first featured artist performing "Hip Hop Heaven" with DJ Quest 9 backing him up. The video is shot on the stage of our first storefront in La Mirada with two huge murals of Los Angeles as the back drop to this intimate live performance. "Hip Hop Heaven" takes you through all of the greats that have come and gone before us and helped show other artists how to survive and succeed in the game. The "Stairway to Heaven" sample starts out the track putting everyone in the mood to pay homage to some of the greats that we miss today. The list goes from O.D.B. all the way to Heath Ledger as DrewID gives props to a broad range of influences that have helped shape him into the lyricist he is today. With his constant hustle DrewID has gotten to perform with some living legends as well like KRS-One, Dead Prez, Sage Francis, and The Pharcyde when they made their way through Southern California. We are proud to work with such a focused artist who embodies the hustle and work ethic we encourage amongst ourselves and those around us.

Be sure to also get yourself a copy of DrewID's "The 4th Letter" EP on Bandcamp or pick up one the first pressing vinyl available at Left Of The Dial Records in Santa Ana. Also you can check out a write up in OC Weekly about DrewID, the "The 4th Letter" EP and some of the tracks on it.

Abstract Rude live at Dwntwn

DWNTWN

The moment Abstract Rude walked into our Cerritos location you could sense something special was about to happen. Bringing twenty years of west coast hip hop experience all by himself, not to mention five other performers on the line up all hand selected by Abstract Rude himself, this show was entirely made up of real performers doing what they love. DJ Zole is no stranger to the game himself and brought his talent on the ones and twos proving why he is an essential part of the OC Music Awards Best Hip Hop Group (Speach Impediments) two years and running. Each performer had their own unique flow which showcased Keep The Feel Entertainment's diverse and talented roster. MC Woes opened, trading off verses with Abstract Rude to get everyone into the moment. Beond (of Acid Reign and current champion of the 16 Bar Rap Competition) came on and with a brand new song written mere days before the show to raise the bar of what was to be expected out of everyone for the rest of the event. B Squid took the stage next to show the crowd how an expansive vocabulary and quick flow can help you rise to the top of a scene. Fresh from a performance opening for a Dwntwn Favorite and West Coast legend DJ Quik, Namek grabbed the mic with a true gangster lean and continued to push the envelope of excitement with his finely tuned set. Now came the open mic portion of the show where J Roz dropped a few verses of her signature brand of hip hop. Abstract Rude stepped back into the spotlight after that with a five minute opening freestlye rap and then ripped into his songs with a confidence of a true veteran of the mic and stage. Its so inspirational to see someone dedicated to their craft show us all what hip hop is meant to be. Spanning genre and style, Abstract Rude effortlessly changed the beats and flow with adept skill and timing that can keep an entire crowds attention. A huge thank you to everyone involved with putting the event on and we will see you next time.

Transit is back at Dwntwn Cerritos

DWNTWN

Transit23.jpg

After the success of their first in store with us, it seemed only natural to invite some of our favorite Boston boys back when they came through southern California promoting their latest record. Everyone was eager to see what new tracks would be played and if some classics would be on the setlist as well. Joyride is laced with hooks from the first minute of "The Only One" to the closing track "Follow Me" with soaring vocals telling us "Don't talk about the future cause it's nothing we can spend / This is my love song, this is how it ends" and the piano fades out. As a fan, its hard to decide of you wanna sing along with the driving verses of "Rest To Get Better" or yell out the well worn words of how "Nothing Lasts Forever." You just know that no mater what, its going to be a good time. With each tour, Transit plays to a broader audience and these sort of opportunities to see them in such an intimate setting are few and far between already. We're glad to be a part of making these types of events happen. And with that, Transit showed up, grabbed some acoustic guitars, and got right to it.

Transit Live at Dwntwn

Transit Live at Dwntwn
Transit Live at Dwntwn

Transit stopped by DWNTWN Cerritos on their last tour with Man Overboard for an exclusive acoustic performance. Having recently release Futures and Sutures on Rise Records, Transit wanted to have the opportunity to play some of the songs they had re-imagined acoustically and the sold out Roxy Theatre show they were playing that night with some energetic sets coming from Knuckle Puck and Forever Came Calling might not have been the right time and place for that. So we got in contact with Transit and offered our stage. Fans got treated to real intimate and close up performance of some of Transit's greatest songs. The set list for the afternoon was Nothing Lasts Forever, Young New England, Skipping Stone, Listen And Forgive, and Long Lost Friends. Knowing this was going to be a special performance that we all want to remember, we had Cavis Tapes come out to professionally record the whole show and have some footage a bit more steady and a lot higher quality than all of you holding your cell phones for 45 minutes straight. Enjoy the videos below and keep a look out for more bands playing in store as we have several shows a month. Transit - Nothing Lasts Forever - Live at Dwntwn

Head over to Cavis Tape’s YouTube channel for even more live footage of a lot of other great shows likeTouché Amore at Chain Reaction, The Story So Far at Warped Tour, and (a personal favorite ) Hot Water Music at The Glasshouse. Thanks again to Transit for putting on a great show and keep a look out for more great bands performing at DWNTWN.

The 1st Annual Lifestyle Festival

DWNTWN

On Saturday March 29th we held the first annual Lifestyle Festival at the DWNTWN in La Mirada. We wanted to get all of the friends and all of the artists we work with together and have one big day surrounding and supporting the creative outlets that run parallel to the streetwear culture. Most weekends we have an artist come in to create something live in-store, but for the Lifestyle Festival, we went big and got four of our up and coming talents to all work at the same time. Sue Art, Brek, Konfused, and Hippeaux came for the festival and showed the diversity and creativity within the same medium. Each of these artists had their own unique vision and style of what can be done with some paint and brushes. You can find all four of these artists pieces hanging on the walls of DWNTWN La Mirada.

There is no denying the huge influence music has within the streewear lifestyle. Throughout the entire Lifestyle Festival we had five acts perform on our stage. These Pilgrims kicked everything off with their brand of folk and blues pouring out of every instrument on stage. Their emotive songs move through you and their stage presence draws you into the performance like the show itself was just for you. Monik Deville came on next representing the hip hop scene. His smooth flow on top of some of the best beats this side of the five freeway had everyone's head nodding. Yukon Gold took the stage next to bring a little rock into the festival and reminded us of the power of volume. No festival is complete without some reggae and Dub 8 did just that. It takes a lot to stand out as a truly talented and soulful reggae band when there are already so many established greats, but Dub 8 does just that and taps into the spirit of the genre with each song. Jeramiah Red closed out the Lifestyle Festival with some award winning power chords and air guitar inspiring solos. These are some incredibly talented guys who just walked away with the OC Music Awards Best Rock Band and Best Blues Band in the same year. You can expect big things for Jeramiah Red and we were all lucky to get such an up close and personal show from them. DWNTWN Wax and Blackbird Records were there with bin upon bin of new and used vinyl to keep your ears content at home as well. DWNTWN Wax is our pop up record shop we keep in all our locations and BlackBird Records just opened on Lambert in Whittier and brought their fresh supply of vinyl as well to bring some great cuts for any collector.

With a little help from the Wray Bro's, we had a heated skate competition going on all day long as well. We just got our latest decks in at DWNTWN and wanted to get everyone in to show off their new custom shape and improved construction. The day started out with a high ollie / long ollie competition followed up by a best trick competition on multiple obstacles we had set up. The whole event was rounded out with a game of skate with prizes awarded from DWNTWN, The Wray Bros, JSLV, and Sk8Mafia being handed out to the winners.

Maybe all of this activity got you hungry? We understand. Thats why we got Chef Cody from Fullerton's best Whiskey spot Hopscotch to come down and show us a thing or two about al pastor and chicken. These street tacos were some of the best we've had, rivaling any other taco truck your one friend had at their last family party.

We would like to truly thank everyone that came through and made it a great time. Another giant thank you to all of the bands, artists, chefs, and athletes that brought the best of their talent for the first Lifestyle Festival. Next year holds nothing but bigger and better things and this Festival is no exception. Check out all the photos below for a first hand account of the entire event.
