Sneaker Jam Follow Up

DWNTWN

And that’s a wrap for the third Sneaker Jam at DWNTWN in Cerritos. First off, thank you to all the sneaker heads, enthusiasts, vendors, customizers, live artists, sponsors, and everyone else for cruising out to be a part of such a great event. The entire day was a success because of you! The Sneaker Jam is a shoe event for everyone to buy, sell, and trade some of the rarest and limited shoes in the world like Yeezys, Jordans, and Nike SB Quickstrikes.

For our third installment of the Sneaker Jam we had ten vendors and three customizers, all of which also do restorations, set up with tables and plenty of selection for everyone who rolled through. We screen all of our vendors like Kicks Bids and The Stash Company so that everyone there is certified and only selling authentic kicks. In short, it's still Yeezy Season but there were only two all black 750 Boosts at the Sneaker Jam for re-sell. These Yeezys are just too rare and incredibly hard to get your hands on and have some of the highest re-sell value shoes in the game right now. Some rare sneakers worn at the Sneaker Jam had to have been the Adidas Yeezy 750 Boosts in all black, Supreme x Jordan 5 in black and red, and the Nike SB 420 Dunk Low Quickstrike that were an early release! They are made of all hemp with a Rasta color accent on the front tongue patch label and throughout the stitching of the shoe.

We had Speezy Customz on hand at the event making custom Jordan-sized hangtahgs for your collection (pictured to the right are a few of his custom pieces). Check out his instagram here to see even more of his work. We also had portrait artist Mariella Angela on hand working on an incredible piece of none other than Michael Jordan. Mariella has worked with us for years now and her skill is incredible to see in person. Be sure to stop by on a Saturday when she does live painting in our store to appreciate the skill that goes into each one of her portraits.

And who doesn’t like giveaways? Rastaclat, Jason Markk and Sneaker Freaker were also at the Sneaker Jam to keep things interesting. Rastaclat set up a raffle for their limited Yeezy stack bracelets during the Sneaker jam. It was two bracelets made to match Adidas Yeezy 350 Boosts in the Black Pirate and Turtle Dove colorways.

DWNTWN would like to thank everyone for making the Sneaker Jam possible and the sneaker community.  If it wasn’t for you this event would not be possible. Until the next one we hope you enjoyed this event and continue to love collecting and wearing what makes you happy!

Sneaker Jam

DWNTWN

DWNTWN is proud to host our 3rd Sneaker Jam at our Cerritos location on Sunday April 3rd, 2016 from 1-6pm. Since opening our doors in the city of Cerritos it was no question that the surrounding community houses an abundance of sneaker heads and we wanted to create an event like no other around for all of them. Whether you're into the simple kicks or loud sneakers, the Sneaker Jam has it all. This event is for sneaker heads by sneaker heads and consists of buying, selling, or trading shoes of all brands and styles from the most limited kicks to the classics you just got to have. Our last event had a great turnout with over 10 shoe vendors, live artists, and DJs spinning all day long. Over 200 sneaker heads rolled through the doors and this upcoming Sneaker Jam is sure to get an even better turnout as word has spread.

Our up and coming Sneaker Jam will consist of official sneaker vendors that buy, sell and trade limited shoes at DWNTWN Cerritos. You are also invited to bring your own limited shoes to sell or trade at the event or just cruise in to see what is going on in the sneaker community. During the event, shoe vendors and sneaker heads will be showcasing and selling brands like Jordan, Adidas, Nike SB, Vans and many more. We also have 2 live sneaker artists booked to customize your kicks at the event! Whatever you have thought would be some incredible detail missing from your favorite pair, our customizers can help turn those dreams into reality. Whether it’s a color change, adding your name, material swaps or restorations, they've got you covered. In typical DWNTWN fashion, we aren't going to stop at sneakers for this whole day. We have a few sponsors who will be at the Sneaker Jam so be on the lookout for giveaways during the event.

Local up and coming artist Mariella Angela will be at the Sneaker Jam painting the iconic Michael Jordan. Her art career is skyrocketing, between being interviewed on Power 106 and already having a solo art exhibition last year, you definitely want to be here to see her paint live and pick up one of her masterpieces we have hanging for sale on our walls. Dj Eddy Express of 93.5 KDay will be spinning during the event to keep your head bobbing as you find the perfect kicks you've been hunting for. Be sure to show up at DWNTWN Cerritos early to get the best selection from our shoe vendors and check out everything else we have planned for the event!

Here are some photos form the last Sneaker Jam Event we hosted! Check them out and get a good idea of what you're in store for on Sunday April 3rd.

No Sleep Till Warped

DWNTWN

Before the Vans Warped Tour kicks off DWNTWN and No Sleep Records put together an exclusive in-store performance from Koji, Allison Weiss, and Grey Gordon for a more up close and personal experience for all of their fans. Not only that, but this event was also the West Coast Release party for Koji's latest EP entitled "Fury" that just came out. We also had No Sleep Records there to hand out their brand new "Summer Of The Reaper" sampler with songs from their solid roster of bands. This sampler is a great way to get a taste for everything No Sleep has to offer and also find a few new artists to blast in your car when you head out on a few summer adventures. Grey Gordon started out the day playing a few new songs and his open letter to Morrissey (and himself) about keeping some perspective when you're world view is getting a bit bleak. Allison Weiss took the stage next and sang some stripped down versions of her latest songs which now feature a backing band. Allison has great vocal control throughout her songs and a unique perspective told through her lyrics. Koji was the final performer and his passionate set kept everyone right where they were. Not only does Koji play some great music, but he engages the crowd in conversation about some broader philosophical thinking. After playing a few songs Koji sat on the edge of the stage and had the entire crowd singing along with him making the final moments of No Sleep Till Warped something to remember. Its these sort of unique and personal moments that make us proud to be as involved as we can be across multiples scenes of music. Each one offers its own sense of community, and we are happy to help add to that. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Dwntwn Breakdown

DWNTWN

There was a great turnout at the Dwntwn Breakdown. Exactly what we wanted and expected! We had eight special invites and opened the doors for eight more competitors to join the battle! More than forty competitors showed up for the event so we gave everyone a chance to display their skills one by one to determine the top eight to battle against the invited Bboys! There was some amazing talent from all over the world at the Breakdown. Bboys from as far as Korea and Japan were at the event ready to bring their own unique style! However, even with all this talent and diversity, at the end of the day only one Bboy or Bgirl can win. Congratulations to Muneki, aka Bboy Wild Cat, from Concrete All Stars of Los Angeles.

Releasing the BBOY 4 LIFE Dwntwn x JSLV collaboration tee for Lil Rock was a great way to give back to all the Bboys and BGirls to show them how much we appreciate the support and love for the dance!

Dwntwn will be hosting more of these events real soon so keep an eye out for all the details coming your way.

Best Trick Contest 2015

DWNTWN

For our first official skate event of 2015 we had a double header Best Trick Contest featuring a  Best Trick Up The Bump Over The Trash Can and a Best Trick On The Pyramid. The Arovista Skate Park in Brea was the perfect place for the entire event to keep it local and give back to everyone that supports Dwntwn. The smell of pizza in the air definitely brought both contestants and spectators alike to see what we had going planned for the day. Filmbot, Sk8Mafia, SML Wheels, JSLV, Kr3w, and Supra were also there all set up with prizes and giveaways! As we set up the contests, you could see each contestant showed up fully prepared to defeat any competition that they were to be faced with. Each contest was filled with the drive and determination to show up everyone else there and be the best. A few rippers that stood out in particular were Joey with his nollie big heel up the bump and Robert who pulled off a proper tre flip to flat on the pyramid. Needless to say, both were voted first place in each of those contests which included over $200 worth of gear and gift certificates. Special thanks to Josh from JSLV and Larelle Gray from for coming out to help judge the contest and hang with everyone throughout the day.

Rastaclat Takeover

DWNTWN

As the doors DWNTWN Cerritos opened on Saturday April 25th, the Rastaclat crew was there to welcome customers and friends to our the very first Rastaclat Takeover. Rastaclat hand-makes all their bracelets, shoe laces, and accessories while staying dedicated to the spirit of spreading positive vibrations. The day consisted of an autograph signing with pro skaters Boo Johnson and Manny Santiago, a DJ spinning all day, live art getting made on the floor, and most importantly a free Rastaclat bracelet with every purchase. We had the signing go down at 2pm and as the day continued to build so did the hype and energy in the store. When pro skateboarders Boo Johnson from DGK Skateboards and Manny Santiago from AMMO Skateboards walked through the doors, both customers and staff were eager to get the signing started! Rastaclat was also generous enough to bring out a ton of promo gear for the fans to get signed like hats, phone cases, and stickers. The lined quickly filed out with people who brought pro model decks, tees, hats, and anything cool to get autographed by Boo and Manny. Our live Dj, Selecta Kram, and our live artist Kate Pendergrass also brought their talents into the store helping make an entire day filled with everything DWNTWN finds inspiration from in the streetwear community. Everyone at DWNTWN and the entire Rastaclat crew were hyped to bring such a cool event to our Cerritos location.  Everyone who made a purchase that day was also stoked on their free black leather Rastaclat bracelet they received! Dwntwn Sessions with DrewID

DWNTWN

DrewID of Speach Impediments performs "Hip Hop Heaven" at Dwntwn La Mirada in the first installment of Dwntwn Sessions.

Behind the turntables

Dwntwn Sessions will be a brand new facet where we take artists we have developed a relationship with and present a close up, one-on-one video of their work. We want to showcase the talent we surround ourselves with at Dwntwn and what better way than by showing you all through video. Dwntwn Sessions will continue to grow and expand across all avenues of art we involve ourselves and give you a unique take on an artists perspective.

DrewID of Speach Impediments is our first featured artist performing "Hip Hop Heaven" with DJ Quest 9 backing him up. The video is shot on the stage of our first storefront in La Mirada with two huge murals of Los Angeles as the back drop to this intimate live performance. "Hip Hop Heaven" takes you through all of the greats that have come and gone before us and helped show other artists how to survive and succeed in the game. The "Stairway to Heaven" sample starts out the track putting everyone in the mood to pay homage to some of the greats that we miss today. The list goes from O.D.B. all the way to Heath Ledger as DrewID gives props to a broad range of influences that have helped shape him into the lyricist he is today. With his constant hustle DrewID has gotten to perform with some living legends as well like KRS-One, Dead Prez, Sage Francis, and The Pharcyde when they made their way through Southern California. We are proud to work with such a focused artist who embodies the hustle and work ethic we encourage amongst ourselves and those around us.

Be sure to also get yourself a copy of DrewID's "The 4th Letter" EP on Bandcamp or pick up one the first pressing vinyl available at Left Of The Dial Records in Santa Ana. Also you can check out a write up in OC Weekly about DrewID, the "The 4th Letter" EP and some of the tracks on it.

Up Close and Personal
Up Close and Personal

Dwntwn is proud to announce that the Sneaker Jam will be making its way back to our Cerritos location on Sunday, February 22nd since we had an overflow of appreciation from the first event. The Sneaker Jam is an event where sneaker connoisseurs buy, sell, and trade their most rare and sought-after footwear. Look forward to catching heat from brands like Air Jordan, Nike, Nike SB and more! Expect some live entertainment from sneaker customization by some of Dwntwn’s best artists as well as a live DJ set. We will have some giveaways throughout the course of the event from both sponsors, Rastaclat and The Finer Things. Rastaclat will have a pop up booth set up to showcasing their bracelets, shoelaces, and more. For all of those interested, the event is free and anyone is welcome to bring in shoes to buy, sell, or trade. Due to limited space, early arrival is suggested. The Sneaker Jam will start at noon and end at 5pm. Last July, we hosted the Sneaker Jam which had sneaker lovers flocking from all corners of Southern California to Dwntwn Cerritos so they could buy, sell, and trade their collections of sneakers. Our store was packed to capacity with people bidding and selling their sneakers for more than expected from every major sneaker brand. It was hard to keep up with all of the rare sneakers that were being brought in under one roof but it was all thanks to the growing sneaker community that had been anticipating an event like this. The outcome was great and we would like to thank everyone that showed up. Also, thanks to DJ Episode for being MC and keeping the atmosphere live as well as Kickstradamus and Dino for doing there thing and making custom sneakers all throughout the event.

More info is coming as we get closer to the 22nd so keep up to date with all of the latest details by following Dwntwn on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. IG: Dwntwn123 / FB & T: Dwntwnonline

Abstract Rude live at Dwntwn

DWNTWN

The moment Abstract Rude walked into our Cerritos location you could sense something special was about to happen. Bringing twenty years of west coast hip hop experience all by himself, not to mention five other performers on the line up all hand selected by Abstract Rude himself, this show was entirely made up of real performers doing what they love. DJ Zole is no stranger to the game himself and brought his talent on the ones and twos proving why he is an essential part of the OC Music Awards Best Hip Hop Group (Speach Impediments) two years and running. Each performer had their own unique flow which showcased Keep The Feel Entertainment's diverse and talented roster. MC Woes opened, trading off verses with Abstract Rude to get everyone into the moment. Beond (of Acid Reign and current champion of the 16 Bar Rap Competition) came on and with a brand new song written mere days before the show to raise the bar of what was to be expected out of everyone for the rest of the event. B Squid took the stage next to show the crowd how an expansive vocabulary and quick flow can help you rise to the top of a scene. Fresh from a performance opening for a Dwntwn Favorite and West Coast legend DJ Quik, Namek grabbed the mic with a true gangster lean and continued to push the envelope of excitement with his finely tuned set. Now came the open mic portion of the show where J Roz dropped a few verses of her signature brand of hip hop. Abstract Rude stepped back into the spotlight after that with a five minute opening freestlye rap and then ripped into his songs with a confidence of a true veteran of the mic and stage. Its so inspirational to see someone dedicated to their craft show us all what hip hop is meant to be. Spanning genre and style, Abstract Rude effortlessly changed the beats and flow with adept skill and timing that can keep an entire crowds attention. A huge thank you to everyone involved with putting the event on and we will see you next time.

Transit is back at Dwntwn Cerritos

DWNTWN

Transit23.jpg

After the success of their first in store with us, it seemed only natural to invite some of our favorite Boston boys back when they came through southern California promoting their latest record. Everyone was eager to see what new tracks would be played and if some classics would be on the setlist as well. Joyride is laced with hooks from the first minute of "The Only One" to the closing track "Follow Me" with soaring vocals telling us "Don't talk about the future cause it's nothing we can spend / This is my love song, this is how it ends" and the piano fades out. As a fan, its hard to decide of you wanna sing along with the driving verses of "Rest To Get Better" or yell out the well worn words of how "Nothing Lasts Forever." You just know that no mater what, its going to be a good time. With each tour, Transit plays to a broader audience and these sort of opportunities to see them in such an intimate setting are few and far between already. We're glad to be a part of making these types of events happen. And with that, Transit showed up, grabbed some acoustic guitars, and got right to it.
