Transit Live at Dwntwn

Transit stopped by DWNTWN Cerritos on their last tour with Man Overboard for an exclusive acoustic performance. Having recently release Futures and Sutures on Rise Records, Transit wanted to have the opportunity to play some of the songs they had re-imagined acoustically and the sold out Roxy Theatre show they were playing that night with some energetic sets coming from Knuckle Puck and Forever Came Calling might not have been the right time and place for that. So we got in contact with Transit and offered our stage. Fans got treated to real intimate and close up performance of some of Transit's greatest songs. The set list for the afternoon was Nothing Lasts Forever, Young New England, Skipping Stone, Listen And Forgive, and Long Lost Friends. Knowing this was going to be a special performance that we all want to remember, we had Cavis Tapes come out to professionally record the whole show and have some footage a bit more steady and a lot higher quality than all of you holding your cell phones for 45 minutes straight. Enjoy the videos below and keep a look out for more bands playing in store as we have several shows a month. Transit - Nothing Lasts Forever - Live at Dwntwn

Head over to Cavis Tape’s YouTube channel for even more live footage of a lot of other great shows likeTouché Amore at Chain Reaction, The Story So Far at Warped Tour, and (a personal favorite ) Hot Water Music at The Glasshouse. Thanks again to Transit for putting on a great show and keep a look out for more great bands performing at DWNTWN.

The 1st Annual Lifestyle Festival

DWNTWN

On Saturday March 29th we held the first annual Lifestyle Festival at the DWNTWN in La Mirada. We wanted to get all of the friends and all of the artists we work with together and have one big day surrounding and supporting the creative outlets that run parallel to the streetwear culture. Most weekends we have an artist come in to create something live in-store, but for the Lifestyle Festival, we went big and got four of our up and coming talents to all work at the same time. Sue Art, Brek, Konfused, and Hippeaux came for the festival and showed the diversity and creativity within the same medium. Each of these artists had their own unique vision and style of what can be done with some paint and brushes. You can find all four of these artists pieces hanging on the walls of DWNTWN La Mirada.

There is no denying the huge influence music has within the streewear lifestyle. Throughout the entire Lifestyle Festival we had five acts perform on our stage. These Pilgrims kicked everything off with their brand of folk and blues pouring out of every instrument on stage. Their emotive songs move through you and their stage presence draws you into the performance like the show itself was just for you. Monik Deville came on next representing the hip hop scene. His smooth flow on top of some of the best beats this side of the five freeway had everyone's head nodding. Yukon Gold took the stage next to bring a little rock into the festival and reminded us of the power of volume. No festival is complete without some reggae and Dub 8 did just that. It takes a lot to stand out as a truly talented and soulful reggae band when there are already so many established greats, but Dub 8 does just that and taps into the spirit of the genre with each song. Jeramiah Red closed out the Lifestyle Festival with some award winning power chords and air guitar inspiring solos. These are some incredibly talented guys who just walked away with the OC Music Awards Best Rock Band and Best Blues Band in the same year. You can expect big things for Jeramiah Red and we were all lucky to get such an up close and personal show from them. DWNTWN Wax and Blackbird Records were there with bin upon bin of new and used vinyl to keep your ears content at home as well. DWNTWN Wax is our pop up record shop we keep in all our locations and BlackBird Records just opened on Lambert in Whittier and brought their fresh supply of vinyl as well to bring some great cuts for any collector.

With a little help from the Wray Bro's, we had a heated skate competition going on all day long as well. We just got our latest decks in at DWNTWN and wanted to get everyone in to show off their new custom shape and improved construction. The day started out with a high ollie / long ollie competition followed up by a best trick competition on multiple obstacles we had set up. The whole event was rounded out with a game of skate with prizes awarded from DWNTWN, The Wray Bros, JSLV, and Sk8Mafia being handed out to the winners.

Maybe all of this activity got you hungry? We understand. Thats why we got Chef Cody from Fullerton's best Whiskey spot Hopscotch to come down and show us a thing or two about al pastor and chicken. These street tacos were some of the best we've had, rivaling any other taco truck your one friend had at their last family party.

We would like to truly thank everyone that came through and made it a great time. Another giant thank you to all of the bands, artists, chefs, and athletes that brought the best of their talent for the first Lifestyle Festival. Next year holds nothing but bigger and better things and this Festival is no exception. Check out all the photos below for a first hand account of the entire event.
